snow owl

November 20th, 2005 by Bramz

A render of a low poly owl modeled by Wim Verbrugghe. The vertex normals are generated using the smoothNormals() function that’s now available on TriangleMesh. However, this seems to bugger up the wings, so the wings use face normals instead.

hehe, that’s cool model :D i would love to see it animated!

about the smooth normals: you can threshold the inclusion of a triangle from the vertex’s smoothing group based on the angle it makes with adjacent triangles. i think max’s smoothing groups can take this into account, along with any other user- or object-specified constraints (eg for sharp cubes with duplicate vertices having different normals).
